Learning about Hanukkah

On Wednesday, Josh's dad came in to talk with the class about Hanukkah.  We learned about the menorah, the shammas candle and the miracle of the oil lasting for eight nights.

Josh's dad also explained their family tradition of saying the prayer each night together and lighting the candle together.  Also, they have a special meal with family and exchange gifts.

We learned how to play the dreidel game.  The children were really good at spinning the dreidel.

Lastly, we made the connection between all of the holidays and traditions we have talked about.  We found that each tradition involves being kind and spending time with family and friends.

We look forward to hearing about more holidays and traditions from our classroom community.

  1. This is really good idea, we should tell our kids about giving as it will make them more humble and will treat everyone equally.
