Welcome Back to School 2016-2017
We are excited to begin the new school year.
Last week 36 bright eyed second graders walked through the doors of rooms 17 & 18. Although there were a variety of feelings about summer ending and the new school year beginning, all of the children were engaged in the discussions about belonging in our classroom community.
We began our school year with morning meeting and reading the book The First Day Jitters. Then we shared our theme for the year: Second Grade Super Heroes. We discussed how all of us has the "Super Power" of being a respectful, responsible, safe and kind student. This goes along with our core value of Fox Hill School: Be the One!
We also read the book The Girl with a Cape which talks about all of us having the power to make others feel good about themselves.
Over the past few days we discussed each one of the core values and decorated our own capes to show how second graders can have super powers of their own.
We have also written about our first day of school, completed a "Who am I" guessing sheet for the parents to figure out on Back to School Night, filled in a "Me Poster" to become part of our writing portfolios, discussed our Hopes and Dreams and classroom expectations, shared "Me Boxes", decorated "Faces Behind the Names" and read several books about second graders in school.
In addition, we have done assessments in reading and math and will begin switching into our reading and math rooms soon.
We are excited for this amazing adventure and look forward to meeting all of our parents at
